At Clearwave Clinic Stroud, our team of highly trained nurses brings over 20 years of NHS experience. We are dedicated to delivering safe, professional health services with a personal touch, placing patient care and comfort at the heart of everything we do.
Micro-suction is a safe, gentle and effective method of removing ear wax. Using a fine suction device and specialist video equipment, our nurses can see clearly inside the ear canal and remove wax with precision. This makes it a comfortable and reliable treatment option for most people.
Ear irrigation is a safe and effective method of removing ear wax using a controlled flow of warm water. Our trained nurses carry out the procedure with care, ensuring comfort while gently clearing wax build-up and improving hearing.
Manual extraction involves the use of tools to gently remove the earwax from the ear canal. Our specialist nurses will use a magnifying glass and a light to see inside the ear and locate the earwax blockage.
Our ear health check includes a thorough examination of the ears and ear canal using the latest video technology. This allows our nurses to identify wax build-up, signs of infection, or other common ear conditions.
Tailored to your individual needs, we can use a mixture of micro-suction, warm water irrigation and manual extraction to remove any ear wax you may have.
Can't make it into clinic, or would just prefer to be seen in the comfort of your own home? We offer home visits too.
If there’s no wax to remove, we won’t waste your visit. Instead, we’ll perform a full ear health check and guide you with clear advice or onward referral if required.
If you have any questions, concerns or you don't know if you need ear wax removal, please feel free to call us for advice.

Ear wax is natural and helps protect the ear, but sometimes it builds up and causes problems. Excess wax can lead to blocked ears, reduced hearing, discomfort, itching, dizziness or tinnitus. In these cases, professional ear wax removal can safely restore comfort and improve hearing.
Yes. Micro-suction is considered the safest method of ear wax removal. It is carried out under direct vision, allowing the nurse to see clearly inside the ear canal throughout the procedure.
Micro-suction and irrigation are usually painless, though you may feel some pressure or mild noise during the procedure. Our nurses work gently and stop immediately if you feel any discomfort.
Most appointments take around 30–40 minutes, depending on the amount and type of wax. You’ll be given plenty of time to ask questions and discuss aftercare.
For most people, using olive oil drops for a few days before your appointment can help soften the wax and make removal easier. However, microsuction can still be carried out without drops if needed. If you’re unsure, our nurses will advise you on the best approach.
